SouthSide Chatter Vol. 5

[This volume of SouthSide Chatter was distributed on 15/09/2023.]

Dear friends,

Weather like this always wakes the reader in us. Keep a close eye on our website for ongoing discounts on our books and make it easier to pamper that side of you! For our fifth ever newsletter, we have decided to introduce a rebrand! The purpose behind this has always been to feel closer to our readers by providing an insight into how our corner of the publishing world works and what we get up to from time to time. Part of achieving this is to initiate a dialogue. Introducing, “Southside Chatter”! Here we hope to have a section dedicated to communication from you, our dear reader. Just like trees after a rain, hopefully our fresh take on this newsletter will be a pleasure to take in. To our new readers, welcome! And to our loyal readers, thank you for joining us on this journey!

From the Office:

Rains, while causing severe inconveniences, have done precious little to grind the city to a halt. At Hyderabad Book Trust, our work is accompanied by a steady drumming of rain and the occasional spat between the dogs in their search for a dry spot. Speaking of fruitless searches, our office has been experiencing a chai-drought. It always starts as a benign desire for something hot to sip on. Then, as the rain gets steadier, it becomes more persuasive. Wouldn’t something flavoured and hot soothe the scratchy throat you haven’t got yet? Of course, it would. Listen to that incessant patter. The rain appears to nag you. Every second that it hits the roof is a reminder of chai that has gone unconsumed and biscuits, whose absence has not been communally lamented. Speaking of biscuits…I will stop there and limit the slippery slopes between us to those of the office entrance.

Reader, what do you crave when it rains?

Top: This week, as the city faced significant flooding of a nasty sort, the offices of Hyderabad Book Trust experienced, thankfully, a much nicer flooding of its own. Carpets of white flowers decorated the borders, undoubtedly shaken free by the wind and rain. Rejuvenating and revitalising to see as we read!
